# Advanced CAD

In [STL Export](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/core-skills/stl-export.md), we took for granted that a CAD model you might wish to print would be suitable for this manufacturing technique.

In reality, design-for-3D-printing is an entire field of it's own. Design decisions in CAD that might otherwise be trivial (e.g. the presence or features of a round or chamfer) can have a large effect on the printability and usefullness of a finished part.

In this chapter, we will scratch the surface of this exciting field,  focussing on:
