# Advanced Slicing

In [Slicing](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/core-skills/slicing.md), we touched only on the essential aspects of selecting/encoding parameters/settings for your prints.

This chapter will further explore the endless options available when printing, namely:

* Adjusting the [Layer Height](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/advanced-skills/advanced-slicing/layer-height.md) of your prints, which primarily affects the surface finish,
* Changing the [Part Orientation](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/advanced-skills/advanced-slicing/part-orientation.md) during printing, and how this affects strength & printability,
* Using [Supports](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/advanced-skills/advanced-slicing/supports.md) to allow printing of otherwise challenging geometries, and,
* Altering the [Shell Thickness](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/advanced-skills/advanced-slicing/shell-thickness.md) and [Infill](/zerotohero/3d-printing-zero-to-hero/advanced-skills/advanced-slicing/infill.md) of your prints to trade-off strength with print-time and material usage.
