# Module Capstone Project

The capstone project for this module involves 3D printing and testing a lifting hook, using a standard geometry (`.stl` file) and test kit.

## Project Goal

Completion of this project will demonstrate that you can:

* [x] Split an STL file for printability.
* [x] Orientate a part for directional strength.
* [x] Tune infill and shell thickness settings.
* [x] Use the variable layer height tool.
* [x] Complete the printing process.
* [x] Join 3D prints with glue.

## Project Overview

You will print a supplied `.stl` file of a "standard" lifting hook, designed to lift a $$10;\text{kg}$$ standard test weight. The hook has been intentionally designed to:

1. Be difficult to print, with out-of-plane features on two sides and a natural trade-off between strength and surface finish, and,
2. Be *too weak* to hold the $$8;\text{kg}$$ test weight when printed with the default slicing settings, due to an intentional stress-riser.

You may not modify the geometry of the hook. Instead, you will make the hook strong enough by modifying the print settings, orientation, etc. in *PrusaSlicer*.&#x20;

:man\_mage: **Important:** You are free to use any combination of settings you like, provided your hook meets the following top-level constraints.:

1. Consumes $$\leq10;\text{g}$$ of filament,
2. Prints in $$\leq45;\text{min}$$,
3. Must be printed with *no supports*.
4. The surface-finish indicators (hemispheres) on each side of the hook must have a reasonably smooth surface (layer lines should be barely visible).
